Where is tarot card reading from?
The reading tradition is traceable to 1780s France: occultist Jean-Baptiste Alliette ('Etteilla') published the first fortune-telling tarot system and the first cartomancy-flavored deck using tarot imagery. French occultists like Éliphas Lévi and later the British Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn built on it, culminating in the 1909 Rider–Waite deck. Meaning: reading, as a practice, is Parisian; the cards are Italian.
