When Were Tarot Cards Invented & When To Read
When were tarot cards created?
Around 1440–1460 in northern Italy — the Visconti-Sforza commissions are the earliest named decks, made as game cards for wealthy families. Divination use arrived around Etteilla's 1780s French tarot, and the standard 78-card structure with meanings consolidated in 1909 with Rider–Waite. Any claim of ancient Egyptian origins is 18th-century marketing.
