Tarot card vs oracle cards

Tarot is a fixed 78-card system with 500 years of shared meanings; oracle decks are freeform — any number of cards, meanings set by the deck's creator. That structure is tarot's edge: your reading means the same thing to another reader. Oracle is easier for beginners but harder to verify or journal against.
